Many people searching for the ultimate luxury car might not automatically think of looking at people carrier category. They tend to make you think of hordes of kids and exhausted mums driving them around to various sporting activities. But hang on a minute!
Have you considered the latest concept from Peugeot – the HX1?
The Peugeot HX1 is the ultimate in luxury travel for drivers who have up to five passengers to take around with them. And even better, as a hybrid, it fits in the category of eco cars too.
Last year, the Peugeot HX1 was showcased at the Frankfurt motor show in July. It doesn’t look like a minivan – it has the appearance of a futuristic and sleek car with none of the boxiness of most minivans.
It will operate on the HYbrid4 system that’s already been used on the RXH and 3008. With the front wheels operated by the 2.2l diesel engine and the electric motor operating the back wheels, there is 4×4 capability when both the engine and motor operate simultaneously.
Peugeot HX1 Interior
It’s on the inside that the luxury aspects really shine through. The interior is lined with natural oak and there’s a centre console made of white marble for the passengers. Inside there’s a coffee machine and a minibar. The driver has a high-tech dashboard with a big touch screen display front and centre, from which all the car functions and readings can be easily seen.
The doors open upwards and outwards with a scissor action, meaning that with all four doors open, there’s a huge access area to the interior. And the seats are configured with four facing front and two extra passenger seats that fold down from the driver and passenger seat backs to face backwards, just as in a London black cab.
At the moment, neither Honda nor Toyota have anything in their hybrid ranges quite so luxurious for carrying six people, and Peugeot’s HX1 is still only a concept, but it definitely looks like the way people carriers will soon be produced.
